Promoting good business practises

Bootstrap Charity is a workspace and business-led charity that promotes responsible business as a way to address inequality in Hackney.

We let studios at the current market rate to a mix of tenants, from small businesses and creative and social entrepreneurs to charities and start-ups. Our buildings are located in the heart of Dalston, between two overground stations. We have studio spaces from 100 sqft to 2,500 sqft typically on three year leases. All our offices include utilities, reception and parcel signing, communal kitchen, break area, bike storage, 24h access, overnight on-site security CCTV. We also offer our own Broadband.

The Bootyard

The Bootyard is a pioneering project to turn a neglected car park, at the rear of the Bootstrap buildings, into a new start-up space for social businesses and community activities. The project is growing organically, with The Dusty Knuckle Bakery and the 40ft Brewery as our lead tenants for the space.

In early 2014 we ran a competition for startups to submit their enterprise ideas, the prize being a shipping container to grow their business in the Bootyard. We had a huge response and the winner was The Dusty Knuckle Bakery who make bread and run workshops to re-engage young people in education, training or work.

In the late spring of 2015 the 40ft Brewery launched in the Bootyard, brewing beer in their 40-foot long container, serving Dalston Roof Park as their first customer. In 2022, they opened ACME Firecult, a new live-fire concept in collaboration with chefs Andrew Clarke and Daniel Watkins.

Print House Gallery

The Print House Gallery is an intimate and exciting gallery space in the heart of Dalston. Our focus is to showcase a mixture of emerging and established contemporary artists across a variety of artistic mediums. Whilst we are a commercial gallery space at heart, we also exist to help the growth of social and creative enterprises. It is incredibly important to all of us involved that we find the time between major shows to support charity based organisations and education programmes.
